Local Search Marketing
Over 79% of U.S. consumers have conducted local business searches in the past year. From dentists to hairstylists, from nightclubs to restaurants, consumers are finding products and services like yours through online search.
A 2010 local search study shows the percentage of consumers who first search for businesses online before searching offline. This is shown in the pie charts below, broken down by age group. You’ll notice that more than 50% of the 55 and older crowd searches online first. The 18 – 34 age group only searches offline 12% of the time.
If you’re nowhere to be found in local search, how much business are you throwing away? You might be coming up #1 for Mike’s Pizza Place, but are you coming up for Pizza in Houston Texas, or Pizza near Memorial City Mall?
Google, Bing, and Yahoo all have local search results. There are also many directories and review sites users trust to find local businesses, that you want to rank well in. Try searching for your product or service as a potential customer might. If you’re not coming up on the first page of the majority of these results, you are in need of local search marketing.
